Comic books and super heroes – every child’s pastime and every adult’s passed-time. Some people continue reading and enjoying the comics even in adulthood. We have seen movies been made on obsession to comics – like “UNBREAKABLE”. Kick-Ass on the other hand is a lighter version of such obsession. Cruel villains, super human stunts, cool gadgets, innocent lead character and good background music form the basic framework of Kick-Ass.The film is based on the comic book with the same name written by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.

Director – Matthew Vaughn

Producers - Matthew Vaughn & Brad Pitt

Cast -

  • Aaron Johnson (as Kick-Ass/Dave)
  • Christopher Mintz-Plasse (as Hit-Girl)
  • Nicolas Cage (as Big-Daddy)

The movie can be divided into 3 parts, the first part revolving around Dave and his honest efforts to help others. He tries to become a super hero, makes his own costume, tries to train as a super hero, calls himself Kick-Ass and takes one hell of a beating. This part of the story is the best part of the movie with all the regular funny stuff of a teen-movie.

The second part of the story revolves around Big-Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and his daughter Hit-Girl. Big-Daddy is a former cop who was arrested under false charges framed by Frank (the Villain) leading to the death of his wife. He does his time and after coming out of prison he trains his daughter. Together with his daughter he makes it his life-time mission to kill Frank and destroy his drug-empire. Frank believes that all the attacks made on his gang were by Kick-Ass and tries to get rid of him. Big-Daddy and Hit-Girl come to his rescue and in the process Big-Daddy dies.

The third part of the story involves the action sequences. Hit-Girl kills all the bad guys with the help of Kick-Ass. Finally both of them return to their normal life.

I have intentionally excluded mentioning the less important characters so that you will have something new left when you watch the movie.

Overall the movie is a good one but every one who watches the movie cannot help but think of Hit-Girl. How can you justify training your child to be a killer? As the character of Big-Daddy’s friend says in the movie -

“you owe her a childhood.”

The graphical violence scenes can be disturbing for young audience who watch the movie thinking of a comic book.

Kick-Ass is probably the first “bloody” superhero (movie).

Though the mission of all superheroes is to destroy the bad guys, we hardly see bloodshed in the traditional superhero movies/stories like Superman, Spiderman and Batman. But this movie is filled with violent encounters, so that the attention of the action-lovers is not missed.
