  • +What are the Services included in Group 1 ?

    Answer) Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) also known as Deputy Collector (DC), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP or DSP), Commercial Tax Officer (CTO), Municipal Commissioner Grade II, Assistant Prohibition and Excise Superintendent, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), District Registrar, District Social Welfare Officer, District Tribal Welfare Officer, District BC Welfare Officer, District Employment Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Jails, Divisional Fire Officer, Assistant Treasury Officer, Assistant Audit Officer, District Panchayat Raj Officer, Deputy Registrar in A.P. Cooperative Service, Lay Secretary in Medical and Health, Mandal Parishat Development Officer (MPDO) are some of the Group 1 Services in Andhra Pradesh.

    Depending upon the vacancies in these services, the notification will be issued by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission. The services filled and the number of vacancies vary from notification to notification.

  • +What are the educational qualifications required for Group 1 Exam ?

    Answer) A Bachelors Degree from any Recognised University in India.

    For Assistant Treasury Officers, a Degree in Commerce OR Economics OR Mathematics of a University recognized by the U.G.C. with at least Second class in the subject (OR) CA of the UK or India or an Incorporated Accountant (London) is COMPULSORY.

    A Bachelors Degree in BE (Fire) is preferred for Divisional Fire Officers.

    Preference shall be given to persons possessing a degree in “Sociology”or “Social Work” for District Social Welfare Officers.

    The Candidates who have obtained Degrees through Open Universities / Distance Education mode are required to have recognition by the Distance Education Council, IGNOU. Unless such Degrees had been recognised by the D.E.C. they will not be accepted for purpose of Educational Qualification. The onus in case of doubt, of Proof of recognition by the D.E.C. that their Degrees / Universities have been recognised, rests with the Candidate.

  • +Is there any benefit if I have additional educational Qualifications ?

    Answer) If you have a Bachelors Degree in BE (Fire) you will be preferred for Divisional Fire Officers.

    If you have a Degree in Commerce (OR) Economics (OR) Mathematics of a University recognized by the U.G.C. with at least Second class in the subject (OR) CA of the UK or India or an Incorporated Accountant (London), you will have eligibility for the post of Assistant Treasury Officer.

    If you have a degree in “Sociology”or “Social Work”, you will be preferred for District Social Welfare Officers.

    Other than that, extra qualification like Post Graduation or Doctorate etc will have no effect.

  • +What is the maximum age limit to apply for Group 1 Exam ?

    Answer) The Upper Age limit is 36 years. However, the Government may issue age relaxation which will be applicable to a specific notification. Please refer to the notification for details about age relaxation.

    For Deputy Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Jails, the upper age limit is 28 years.

    For Assistant Prohibition and Excise Superintendent, the upper age limit is 26 years.

    Age Relaxation –

    For SC/ST/BC – 5 years relaxation. (Upper Age limit will be 41 years)

    For Physically Handicapped – 10 years relaxation (Upper Age limit will be 46 years)

    For those who have worked as instructors in NCC – 3 years + the length of service.

    Ex-service Men – 3 years + the length of service.

    A.P.State Government Employees (not employees of Corporations) – 5 years relaxation.

    Employees in State Census Department with a minimum service of 6 months – 3 years relaxation

  • +Is there any age relaxation for in-service candidates ?

    Answer) A.P.State Government Employees will have 5 years relaxation. But employees of APSEB, APSRTC, Corporations, Municipalities etc, will have no relaxation.

  • +Are there any Physical Requirements for Group 1 ?

    For DSP and Divisional Fire Officers,

    For Men -Must not be less than 167.6 Cms. in height and must be not less than 86.3 Cms. round the Chest on full inspiration and has a Chest expansion of not less than 5 cms. on full inspiration.

    For S.T. Men: Must not be less than 164 Cms. in height and must be not less than 83.8 Cms. round the Chest with a minimum expansion of not less than 5 Cms. on full inspiration.

    For Women – Not less than 152.5 Cms. in height and not less than 45.5 Kgs in weight.

    Vision (for both men and women) – Not below 6/24 without glasses. Contact lenses are not allowed.

    For Assistant Excise Superintendent,

    Must be atleast 165 Cms. in height and atleast 81 Cms. round the Chest on full expiration, with a chest expansion of atleast 5 Cms.

  • +Are there any Reservations (BC/SC/ST/Women) in Group 1 Services ?

    Reservations are not applied in the Preliminary Stage but they are applied from Mains onwards.

  • +Is there any reservation for Sports/NCC/Ex-Servicemen ?

    No. Only age relaxation is given.

  • +When are the Group 1 Exams conducted ?

    There is no exact time frame for conducting Group 1 Exams. They are not conducted every year. As and when vacancies arise, the government intimates the APPSC and the Commission then issues a Notification to fill up those vacancies. APPSC is planning to implement calendar system like UPSC, but still it is in planning stage only.

  • +What is the fees for Group 1 Exams ?

    Fees of `100 for application processing is compulsory for all candidates.

    `120 for Examination Fee should be paid by those who are not exempted from paying the fees.

    Fees Exemption – SC, ST, BC, PH, Ex-service Men, Women, Unemployed and White Card Holders are exempted from paying the Examination Fee of ` 120. (They should pay the application fee of ` 100.)

  • +What is the time period for the Examinations ?

    The entire process of Group 1 Examination extends over a period of 12 to 14 months.

    At the time of Notification, 30 to 45 days time is given to submit the applications (i.e, up to the last date of applications).

    From the last date of applications, around 45 days time gap is given for Prelims Exam.

    The Prelims result is announced in 30 to 45 days from the date of Exam.

    A time period of 2 to 3 months is given from the date of announcement of Prelims results to the starting of Mains Exam.

    Mains Exam is conducted in 11 to 13 days.

    The results of the Mains Exams will be announced in 3 months from the date of the Paper 5 exam.

    Interviews will commence in 15 to 20 days from the Mains Results date.

    Interviews will be held at the rate of 15 to 18 candidates per day. So, interviews will extend for more than a month as they will be held only on working days.

    Merit List will be displayed on the last day of the Interviews.

    Selection List will be announced in 7 to 10 days from the last day of the Interviews.

    NOTE: Any appeal in the Administrative Tribunal will disrupt the above time frame and cause delay in the process.

  • +Are the Group 1 posts divided on the basis of Zonal System ?

    Only MPDO and Assistant Audit Officer posts are Zonal posts. That is, selection is made Zone-wise and appointment is also made zone-wise. For example, a candidate from Zone 5 will be selected for a vacancy in Zone 5 only.

    For AES, RTO, District BC Welfare Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Municipal Commissioner Grade II etc, the selection is done state-wide but appointment is zonal. For example, a candidate from Zone 5 can be selected for a vacancy in Zone 1 but he will be appointed in Zone 1 only and he has to continue his career in that Zone.

  • +Can aspirants from other states apply for Group 1 Exams in A.P. ?

    Yes. Candidates from other states will be treated as Non-local.

  • +How to apply for Group 1 Services Exam ?

    After the Notification is released by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission,

    I Step:-The Candidate has to logon to the WEBSITE ( and enter his/her Basic Personal Details like Name, Father’s Name, Date of Birth, and Community.

    II Step:-Immediately on entering the above details the Applicant will get (downloadable)- Challan Form to pay the Fee at AP Online centers /State Bank of India.

    III Step:-The Applicant should pay the prescribed Fee in any one of the A.P. Online centers/State Bank of India and obtain Fee paid challan with Journal Number in the first instance.

    IV Step:-On the next working day after payment of Fee the Applicant should again visit WEBSITE and enter the Journal Number to get the format of Application. The applicant has to invariably fill all the columns in the Application and should submit ON-Line. Even after making payment of fee, candidate fails to submit the bio-data particulars, such applications shall be rejected without giving any notice.

    There is no need to apply for Mains Examination. The same application will be sufficient for the entire recruitment process.

  • +Is coaching necessary to get selected in the Group 1 Exams ?

    If you have enough time and commitment to go through the standard text books and prepare your own notes, then coaching is not necessary. If you are short of time and wish to access ready made information, then Coaching will greatly benefit you.

    It depends on your individual capability. There are people who got selected without coaching and there are lots of people who could not select even after coaching. All that matters is motivation, hard work and intelligent preparation.

  • +How to prepare for Group 1 Exams ?

    That is a tough question to answer in a few words.

  • +How long does it take to prepare adequately for Group 1 Exams ?

    This varies depending on individual capability. Roughly 12 months preparation will be sufficient to get through the exam. That is, if you are an average student who is highly motivated, if you start your preparation one or two months prior to the notification, you have a good chance of selecting.

    If you are an above average student who is highly motivated, you can get selected even if you start your preparation after the Notification is released.

  • +Is there any advantage for English Medium students over Telugu Medium students?

    NOT AT ALL. This is a myth. The very essence of Group 1 Examination process is to bring every one to a common starting point.

  • +Can I appear for Group 1 if I prepare for Civil Services Examination ?

    Yes, you can. But as there is no longer any optional paper in the Group 1 examinations, there will be no advantage for those who are preparing for civils.

  • +Can I appear for Group 1 if I prepare for Group 2 Examination ?

    Yes, you can. The Preliminary exam will be a walk in the park for those who prepare for Group 2. However, Mains examination will pose a lot of difficulties as it is descriptive in nature.

  • +Are the Group 2 posts merged in Group 1 Services

    The Executive Posts under Group 2 are proposed to be merged with Group 1 Services under the name Group 1B. This has not been made official yet. Let us wait for the Notification!
